CCU offers several ways to help you avoid bounced checks or payment denials. Please take a few minutes to read this information and understand the options that are available to you.
Prevention is certainly the best medicine when it comes to overdrawing your checking account. Balance Alerts let you know when your account drops below a level you've specified so you can take action to prevent overdrawing your account and avoid the expense and embarrassment of returned payments. Log in to eBranch Online Banking to set up Balance Alerts to be sent via email or text.
With Text Message Banking, you get your balance AND you can immediately transfer funds from another CCU account into your checking account!
To help ensure that checks and payments go through when you accidently overdraw your account, CCU offers automatic Overdraft Transfer, which transfers funds from your CCU Share Savings Account or CCU Line of Credit Account to cover the overdraft. You are automatically signed up for this service when you sign your Account Agreement. You can, however, decline to accept this service if you prefer.
Here's how it works: If a payment presented is more than your available checking account balance, the additional funds will be transferred from your source account and you will only pay a $10 transfer charge. For an Overdraft Transfer to occur, you must have enough funds available in the source account to cover the overdrawn amount. Additionally, if your source account is a savings account, the transfer cannot cause the source account to exceed the regulatory limit on savings accounts of 6 withdrawals within a calendar month.**
Members may choose to have Overdraft Transfer from the regular share account or a CCU line of credit. There is no monthly or annual fee for this service. You are ONLY charged when an overdraft transfer occurs.
Share Savings Accounts:
Limited to six (6) transfers per calendar month per Federal Regulation D
Amount transferred: Overdrawn amount plus $10 Transfer Fee
Line of Credit:
No limit on the number of overdraft transfers
Amount transferred: Transfers in $100 increments, no transfer fee
This service is not available on Free Checking, Money Market Checking, or Health Savings Account (HSA) Checking. Overdraft Transfer will not transfer funds when an ATM withdrawal or when a purchase made with a debit card when checking out at a merchant (Point of Sale) would cause you to overdraw your account.
